The Autódromo Ezequiel Crisol is located on the north-eastern outskirts of the city of Bahía Blanca in Argentina.

The circuit opened in 1978, but the area has a long history of staging Turismo Carretera races. The first event was all the way back in 1905, with a raid from the capital Buenos Aires to the city of Bahía Blanca.

A race was held on a circuit in Grunbein in 1951, before races took place at Villa Bordeu in 1958 organised by the Bahía Blanca Automobile Club.

In 1972, construction of the permanent circuit in Aldea Romana began, but it was not until 1978 that the 2.020 km circuit was inaugurated.

The track was lengthened to 3.2 km in 1981, and in 1988 the final corner was tightened, bypassing the faster sweeping corner which soon became a distant memory.

Racing continued into the 2000s, but in 2010 the local government pledged to undertake reconfiguration work, which ultimately went unfinished – leaving the circuit “destroyed”.

Thus, the circuit closed in 2010 and lay dormant and unusable for over a decade, with the asphalt having been entirely ripped up and attempts made to lay out a new, extended circuit.

Attempts were made to restore the circuit in 2015, but the economic situation in Argentina prevented these being undertaken. Then, in 2016, it was announced the circuit would be restored, with new mayor Héctor Gay keen to see the works completed.

After several iterations, which ultimately resulted in a scaled-back restoration, the new Leonardo Stella-designed circuit reopened in 2020.
